Reflection

After reading this text it brought me back to my childhood and the cartoons  I used to watched. When I was a child I never saw the way media portrayed others, I thought I was just watching a cartoon or a show. The roles characters play and what there role based off is really prejudiced. Back when a lot of these show were created it was a different time period where blacks weren't fully accepted , women strictly were to take care of the household, and the men worked. In a lot of shows on television that is what's portrayed. Looking back on my favorite shows or movies, Cinderella was one of them. From watching the movie it made me believe all step parents and step siblings were evil. The roles were the Step mother made the daughter cook, clean, and work while the step children didn't have to do anything. Never would I of believed that if I didn't watch the movie. After reading Christensen it also reminded me how there were never black princesses or black people who had the lead roles. Their was never a black Disney princess until recently, which she became a princess from kissing a frog. Every Disney princess becomes a princess in a romantic beautiful way. In my opinion I wouldn't consider kissing a frog romantic or beautiful.

    I do agree and disagree with some of the statements in your reflection of the text we read. While I do think you have some valid points I went into greater detail in my extended comment on some of the quotes i liked and disliked in this post

From completing my service learning project this semester, I truly discovered that I want to be an elementary education school teacher.   This  experience  was something I was nervous for because  I never  been inside an  inner-city  school. I will never forget the first day I came home and told my mom I had to volunteer in a school in Providence. I was worried about the area around me, the people who lived around the school, and what the school would be like inside. Blog 3 Aria Richard Rodriguez After reading Aria it was apparent to me that many students who speak another language must feel detached or lost. Coming into a classroom that is full of English language speakers when you speak Spanish or another language is very intimidating. This connects to a situation that is occurring in the classroom I'm currently volunteering in. Theirs two students in the class who only speak Spanish and know a tiny bit of English. When I first observed them it was obvious to me they didn't know what the teacher was saying. They would wait for everyone in the class to do something first so they could see what they were doing then proceed to do the same. I thought about myself and being put in that position and how hard it must be to sit in a classroom all day having no idea what the teacher is saying. Kilewer    “Citizenship in School: Re-conceptualizing Down Syndrome"  This blog post is going to be based off of Rachel B. Reading the article and seeing how frustrated the young girl gets when she finds out she cannot take any of the classes she wants because she is special needs. By not allowing her into these classrooms its taking away at her learning experience and ability to learn. Reading Rachel's blog made me completely agree with her because I had a similar experience too her when I was in school. In elementary school special education students were put in normal classrooms but always had a student aid with then. Then when I got into middle school they were both in regular classes and in their own rooms.  In middle school we were put on teams and the teachers picked five students on each team to spend their advisory time in the gym hanging out with students that had special needs.
